Tourism Technology Pilot – Phase1
Northumberland County is seeking tourism operators and business owners to participate in a pilot project that uses a mobile-web marketing and sales system aimed at online and mobile users i.e. iPhone, Blackberry and other handheld devices users, to increase sales.
In today’s economy, most new and many current customers will do their research and make their buying decisions online. Already, a large number of those customers will use their smartphone instead of a personal computer. This mobile market will soon be the primary marketplace for many products and services. By being one of the first regions to comprehensively market our businesses’ products and services to mobile users we can win new customers and retain our existing ones.
The system is intended to capture more revenue and build repeat business by attracting more customers on the Internet and on mobile phones and making online sales. It provides marketing tools to create awareness, offer purchase incentives, encourage customer loyalty and drive referrals.
Each business will be provided with a mobile website linked to a number of key hyper-local search and discovery websites and social networks. It can link mobile and existing PC websites and allows the addition of services such as appointment and booking applications, and a web-based terminal to redeem coupons for customer discounts or loyalty points.
The objective of this pilot is:
To attract more customers and grow your business
To give new and repeat customers the ability to easily discover your relevant offerings and find your business through mobile maps and directions
To have your business stand out from the competition
To market your business using new technologies
To measure the effectiveness of your marketing investment
There is no cost to pre-register to participate in this pilot. Pre-registering will guarantee your business a place in the pilot. We are seeking between 100 – 150 Northumberland businesses interested in participating for the next 12 months.

This rate of participation would make the pilot fiscally viable and once achieved would launch the service. The launch date would be dependent upon rate of pre-registration.
With the launch of the service the cost to participate in this pilot is $9.95/month for a period of one year. The service is designed to produce a positive return on investment during and after the pilot, with all fees tied to measurable sales results.
